Treasure Trunks

Each trunk contains representative artifacts or samples, activities and instructions for use.  Trunks may be checked out for one or two weeks.  There is a $10 charge; $5 is refunded when the trunk is returned.  Trunks are usually checked out on Saturday afternoon and returned the following Saturday morning.  Please call the Museum at 330-455-7043 for more information or to reserve your trunk.  Trunk subjects are:

History To Go

Stark County Then & Now (3rd Grade) Students will learn about the history of Stark County, including the development of major industries and immigration to the area.  Using maps and historic photographs, students will discover the rich history of Stark County.  The program is 45 minutes in length and limited to schools in Stark County.  The fee is $40 per program. Beautiful Ohio (4th Grade) Students will learn about the Ohio symbols and the different Presidents associated with Ohio  They will use map skills to locate the birth and death places of each Ohio President.  In small groups students will make a presentation about an Ohio President.  The program is 60 minutes in length and limited to schools in Stark County.  The fee is $40 per program. Building the McKinley Monument (All Grades) This program highlights the life and tragic death of President McKinley and the subsequent construction  of the McKinley Monument. Students will follow the construction process through slides and video from the Museum’s archives.  The fee for this 40 minute program is $40 per program and limited to schools in Stark County.  Please contact Christopher Kenney to schedule this program.

Meet the President (3rd-12th Grade) History comes alive for your students when they receive a visit from out 25th President of the United States, William McKinley.  During this 45 minute program the President will talk about his life growing up, service in the Civil War, his favorite flower the scarlet carnation and his time as President.  Students will have the opportunity to as questions.  The fee for this program is $75 per program.  There is an additional mileage charge for programs outside Stark County.  This program is available September-March.  Please contact Christopher Kenney to schedule this program.

Science to Go

Habitats (1st and 2nd Grade) Students will learn the living and non-living components of a habitat.  Students will participate in activities that show the effect of a changing habitat on populations.  They will learn the importance of food, water, shelter and space to all living creatures.  The fee for this program is $40 per program and is limited to schools in Stark County.  Please contact Lynette Reiner to schedule this program.

Animal Adaptations (3rd-5th Grade) The class will participate in various activities that connect structure to function in plants and animals.  The fee for this program is $40 per program and is limited to schools in Stark County.  Please contact Lynette Reiner to schedule this program.

States of Matter (4th Grade) Students will use their observation skills in small groups to identify mystery containers.  They will view gas changing volume right before their eyes.  Students will identify the properties of different states of matter.  The fee for this program is $40 per program and is limited to schools in Stark County. Please contact Lynette Reiner to schedule this program.

Changes (4th & 6th Grade) Students will view and participate in experiments involving chemical or physical changes.  They will work together to perform a variety of controlled experiments.  Students will learn characteristics of chemical and physical changes.  The fee for this program is $40 per program and is limited to schools in Stark County.  Please contact Lynette Reiner to schedule this program.
