Brick Flicks Opening in the Keller Gallery on JULY 1!

There are perhaps few toys as iconic as LEGO bricks. However, in the 55 years since the LEGO brick was born, another industry has created thousands of iconic images that we’ve grown to know and love. What better way to celebrate the motion picture industry than by recreating these images in LEGO form?

Brick Flicks recreates forty scenes from well-known movies, each presented as a large-format print. From Wayne’s World to West Side Story, The Matrix to Mary Poppins, and Laurel & Hardy to the Life of Pi, Brick Flicks is an exhibition of some of the most iconic and memorable film moments of all time recreated by Warren Elsmore, the well-known artist in LEGO bricks. Each familiar scene has been carefully photographed to mimic the staging and lighting of the original movie, but with the scenery, actors and actresses recreated with everyone’s favorite building blocks.

“Our journey takes us through action, comedy, drama, science fiction and more as we celebrate the versatility of the LEGO palette,” said Elsmore. “Each film brings its own challenges as we strive to create an image that is instantly recognizable. In some instances, we’ve chosen to use a scene from the film itself and in some cases the movie poster itself is our ‘main protagonist.’ Either way round, I hope that the image we’ve chosen brings back memories – or perhaps triggers a desire to expand your own film collection!”

The exhibition includes three hands-on LEGO building stations, plus a “Graffiti Wall” where you can make your own LEGO creations to share with other Museum visitors. Don’t miss the fun this summer! Brick Flicks is on view from July 1 through September 30.
