The “Nickel Tour” Continues … 1956 Was A Very Good Year

Robert H. Hildebrand was a photographer for the Timken Company and in 1956 he shot seventy-five photographs of intersections in Canton, Ohio.  He captured Cleveland & Market Avenues, and McKinley & Walnut Avenues. Public Square was transformed into Central Plaza in downtown Canton, Ohio. Before this transformation Bob Hildebrand captured Public Square the way it appeared in 1956 after many changes since its creation in 1805.  See Public Square in its many stages before it becomes Central Plaza. Miss Ruth Cogan, beloved music teacher in Canton taught in both Lehman and Lincoln schools.  Follow her story of how she touched the hearts and minds of her students and brought to them the sacred gift of music. Learn how she is connected to the “Hotel That Never Was.” Finally, learn about the evolution of transportation in Canton including horse drawn trolleys, the interurban, and U.S. Route 30 coming right through our city. The fee for this program is $50.
